A happy heart is light and carefree and that’s our goal; so let’s
have a check-up and examine what’s in our hearts.
After receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior, this is one of the
most important exercises we can do to help us grow in the Lord.
God, create a clean heart in me and renew a faithful spirit within me.
-Psalms 51:10
Above ALL else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23:
An anxious heart weighs a man down…
Proverbs 12:25:
This is an excellent exercise to do often because it leaves us feeling so
much better. When nothing seems to go right in our minds or our
lives, it’s definitely time for a heart check-up and cleansing.
FORGIVENESS = FREEDOM
Forgiveness brings freedom. The main reason to forgive is for US!
Let’s understand this mystery: Forgiveness does not erase or excuse the event.
What has happened has happened and nothing can erase the memory of it or its
consequences BUT the memory will fade and lose its sting
and strength. This is evidence of real forgiveness.
Forgiveness means relinquishment – giving something up. When
we relinquish someone; we give up whatever power they hold over us. Can a
person hold power over us? Yes, and this puts a new light on forgiveness.
By choosing to forgive, we have just unarmed that person and the enemy
– who loves to remind us over and over of
the wrongdoing.
We must choose to never again allow that event or person to determine
how we feel or how we act even toward them. The power of this
wrongdoing is disarmed! Hallelujah!
Now let’s check-in and see what
God has to say about this important subject:
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your
Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive,
then your Father will not forgive you.
Matthew 6:14
Forgiveness is very important to God, and we certainly want to
be forgiven. So let’s get started!
Grab some paper and a pen knowing the paper can be torn into
shreds afterward. This exercise is designed to be between us and
Jesus.
Here is a list to get started but also ask Holy Spirit to bring up
those from the past who need to be forgiven. It’ll be surprising
as the memories come rolling in. When this happens, simply
say, with a sincere heart, “Lord, I forgive _____.” Stay there
and see if He wants to show you anything else. The idea is to
align your thinking and your heart with God’s.
Most of us have experienced a memory popping up surprising
us and we wonder where it came from. Well, it could very
well be Holy Spirit prompting us to pray or forgive them or
both. Examine those memories; there’s a reason for them.
Old memories and or hurts can attach to our souls weighing
us down and keeping us under the enemy’s thumb. As we repent,
confess and forgive those hurts, they are loosed from our souls
and we are set FREE!
